Shopping FAQ

Is any other shopping scheduled?

No, we prefer to leave that as an option for all our clients, the stop will b at a Government-approved store where you have a guarantee that you are buying what you are told you are buying. Gold is actually gold; papyrus is actually papyrus, etc. This cannot be guaranteed (expected?) at a market which is much riskier.
Will we be able to order personalized cartouches with our names on them in hieroglyphics once

we're on the tour?

I believe so, but it's best not to count on it. A limited number of people were able to order items on the morning of the first day and receive them on the second day. It is best to order them in advance though through Vicki who will prepare a list for Hazem. (I will be sending you this information very soon.)

What are the cartouches are made of?

You can choose between solid 18 kt gold, very high quality silver, or silver with 18 kt gold hieroglyphics added to them. They are all beautiful and very well made.

Do they come with a chain?

No, but you can purchase a chain to go with your cartouche at the government-approved store. They have a wide selection of gold chains and other jewelry.

How do we pay for the cartouches?

You can pay in cash or with a major credit card, but if you pay with a credit card there is a 3% surcharge.

What else can you find at the store we stop at?

Many of the items that foreigners shop for in Egypt: besides gold, silver and jewelry, you can find alabaster, amber, water pipes, papyrus, kaftans, etc. etc. etc. By the way, Princess won't let you bring water pipes back to your cabin. They store them for you and you can pick them up when you disembark in Rome.
