Petra is a historic and archaeological city in the Jordanian governorate of Ma'an that has rock cut architecture and a water conduits system. It lies on the slope of Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.

The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate Prizewinning sonnet by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage.Petra was chosen by the BBC as one of "the 40 places you have to see before you die"

From Aqaba Port, you will be transferred by an air-conditioned vehicle for about 1.5 hours to the rose red city in Petra, a must-see in the Middle East. Upon arrival at the Visitor's Centre start on horseback or on foot to the Siq, a narrow gorge, and continue to the beautiful Treasury. From there you will be walked along the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs and Qasr Al Bent. After buffet lunch you will be driven back to the cruise in Aqaba.

Petra shore excursions

Day Tour Dead Sea (AQB 2)

Adult Price: from 155 $ to 175 $ per person (depending on number of people)

Tour details:

The Dead Sea has attracted visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years.

The Dead Sea also called the Salt Sea, is a salt lake bordering Jordan to the east, and Israel and the West Bank to the west. Its surface and shores are 422 metres (1,385 ft) below sea level,[2] the lowest elevation on the Earth's surface on dry land. The Dead Sea is 378 m (1,240 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. It is also one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, with 33.7% salinity. Only Lake Assal (Djibouti), Garabogazköl and some hypersaline lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond) have a higher salinity. It is 8.6 times more salty than the ocean.[3] This salinity makes for a harsh environment where animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 67 kilometres (42 mi) long and 18 kilometres (11 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River.

From Aqaba Port you will be transferred by an air-conditioned vehicle for about 2.5 hours to the lowest point on earth at 400 meters below sea level: the Dead Sea. This unique place is famous for its salty waters. The high concentration of minerals makes water and the dark mud on the shores precious for various health treatments already known by King Herod the Great. Arrived at Dead Sea you have leisure time, the chance to float on water and enjoy a lunch at this incredible site. Around 15.30 P.M. you leave the Dead Sea and drive back to Aqaba port.

From Aqaba Port you will be transferred by an air-conditioned vehicle about 1.5 hours to the rose red rock city Petra, a must-see in the Middle East. Haifa Shore Excursions

Private Jerusalem and Jewish Heritage (HA 6)

Adult Price: from 715 $ to 875 $ per group (depending on number of people)

Tour details:

After meeting your guide on the pier in Haifa, they will drive you into the stark, yet strikingly beautiful Judean Hills. During your approximate two and one half hour drive, you will wind through the Judeean hills, you will pass the castle fortification before arriving at the remarkable Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority. The museum, which was opened in 2005, is dedicated to documenting the history of the Jewish people during the Holocaust period, emphasizing each victim's experience through original artifacts, survivor testimonies and personal possessions. This unique perspective is presented in a sprawling complex of tree-studded walkways that lead to museums, exhibits, archives, monuments, sculptures and memorials. Your visit here is approximately two hours.

Leaving Yad Vashem, you will navigate your way into Jerusalem, viewing some of Israel's most notable landmarks, such as the Hebrew University, home to 2005 Nobel Prize winner Professor Emeritus Robert J. Aumann, the Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book, the Knesset (Israel's Parliament) and the State Supreme High Court. A break will be taken so you can have lunch on your own and relax.

After the break, you will set out on an approximately two and one half hour walking tour of the Old City. Entering via the Zion Gate, scene of some of the fiercest fighting in Jerusalem during the siege of 1948, your walk will take you past some of the most sacred sites in religious history. As you make your way through the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, you will see the Cardo, Jerusalem's main thoroughfare during the Roman and Byzantine eras. You will also see the newly rebuilt Hurva Synagogue. Burned by angry creditors in 1720, it was rebuilt in 1856, only to be destroyed again during the 1948 conflict. Descending into the lower city, you will view the Temple Mount and the golden-topped Dome of the Rock. With its stunning blue and gold ceramic tiles, this amazing shrine built in the late 7th century is considered the third holiest site in Islam. You will also visit the famous Western (Wailing) Wall, the holiest site in the Jewish world because it is believed to have been closest to where the Holy Ark once stood.

Exiting the Old City, you will re-join your transportation and begin the three hour drive back to Haifa. Along the way, enjoy a drive past the city walls and through the Kidron Valley. From here you will have a view of Absalom's Tomb and the Tomb of Zacharia before it's time to travel back to the pier in Haifa.
